Stepping into a month of HOPE

Steven Hawkins once said, “However bad life may seem, there is always something you can do and succeed at. Where there’s life, there’s hope.”

So what is Hope?

There are a multiple definitions for hope, but the definition I want to highlight is one provided by Merriam Webster:

Noun. Desire accompanied by expectation of or belief of fulfillment.

When we go out into these communities to plan events, create spaces for mentorship, and bring in programs that can help families, what do you think that we’re providing? Of course, you could say that we’re providing, and helping, to foster a sense of community that may have been missing, or even say that we’re providing resources that can be integral in supporting the families in the community. However, I want to challenge you to think deeper than face value.

Beneath the surface of all of those things, what we’re providing is a space for families that may be struggling to feel hopeful that things can get better. A safe space to momentarily forget about the struggles of the day and relax playing bingo, or feel rest assured that their child is safe and loved with their mentor for an hour.

No matter where we are in life, hope is a beautiful thing and the fact that we’re able to provide such forms of hope makes what we’re doing worth it!

Remember that we can all do with a little hope and if there is something we can do, then we should set out and do it.
